Subes for life!

Concerned neighbors have reported that the famous “Stone House” on West Cliff Drive is now missing. In its place, someone has erected this huge tent:

“Did the circus come to town?” one onlooker asked, to no one in particular. “Did the homeless VLer bums claim the space for their illegal tent camping sites?” another asked, under her exasperated breath.

Earlier in the week, there was road work at the end of Stockton, with trenchers and backhoes and dozers all doing their thing while a half-dozen “supervisors” stood around and did their thing (standing around). However, with what we know at this time, the digging appears to be unrelated to the missing house.

I stopped and asked the owner (former owner?) of the Stone House what was going on, and he said, “Well, a lot. You know how it is. But, we’ll get our house back soon!”

The mailman (he’s a man, so I can call him that) nodded his head genially, and delivered the mail as usual, as if he either hadn’t noticed the missing house or didn’t care as long as the mailbox was still there. (Spoiler alert: it was.)

All the neighbors have always said the owner family (husband and wife, double Lotto winners) are over-the-top friendly, but his cheerful optimism in this situation just doesn’t track. I think he knows more than he’s letting on. The missing house could be a ploy to cover up something even bigger. The heavy equipment may be related after all. And with the feds now involved (looking at you, mailman), this could be huge.
